This competition is organized by City Council of Penang and Malaysian Institute of Architects (PAM) Northen Chapter. The competition calls for a new wet market and town hall for Teluk Kumbar, a small town located at the southern part of Penang Island.
Current issues in Malaysian wet market design are addressed in the scheme. The design eliminate moisture and smell from the common spaces through detailed planning of different users zones and uses passive ventilation ideas to create a conducive, clean and low-energy marketplace for the local. The spirit of Malaysian street market is reflected in the overall planning and the design of the roof canopy.
